Class Notes: School board meets at new locale today

The Gainesville City School Board will have its regular meeting today at 6 p.m. in the municipal courtroom at the public safety complex on Queen City Parkway.

The board plans to hold all its regular meetings at this new location. Work sessions will continue to be at the school board office on Oak Street.

Brenau University boasts new College of Business dean

Suzanne Erickson will replace Bill Lightfoot as dean of College of Business and Mass Communication at Brenau University. Erickson has served as associate dean at the college and holds a doctorate in finance from the University of Washington and an MBA from Seattle University. Lightfoot will serve as a part-time faculty member through the fall 2014 semester and then will leave for his new position as managing director of a credit organization in Tanzania.

Gainesville City Schools issues reminder about registration

Gainesville City Schools officials are urging parents to register their children for the coming school year soon if they haven’t done so already. Registration takes place at 715 Woodsmill Road and will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. The registration center will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning July 28.

Hall County Schools earns Georgia environmental award

The Hall County School System has received the Georgia Environmental Protection Division’s GaDERGreen Award, which is presented to school systems for reducing diesel emissions in their school bus fleets.
