Chickens slowed traffic in the heart of Gainesville, the poultry capital of the world, Monday night.

More specifically, a Fieldale Farms tractor-trailer carrying containers of live chickens broke down in front of Mellow Mushroom on Green Street around 6:30 p.m. and snarled traffic for about two hours as another truck came to have the chickens moved onto it.

The truck that broke down was in the right-hand lane going north, and Gainesville Police officers directed traffic during the slowdown.
