Car slumber event aims to open eyes to homeless

A Subaru decorated as a frog won the decorating contest at Family Promise’s “Car City: Putting the Brakes on Homelessness” event at First Presbyterian Church Friday night in Gainesville. The car is owned by First Presbyterian Church associate pastor Shon Peppers.
Nine people slept in their cars Friday night to raise awareness of homelessness in Hall County. The event “Car City: Putting the Brakes on Homelessness” was held by United Way of Hall County and Family Promise and held at First Presbyterian Church. Family Promise director Lindsey McCamy said the annual event support funds for the group’s three new affordable homes and programming for children and their families who are suddenly without a place to live.
