Gillsville and Clermont each have one person running for each opening on their city councils following the fourth day of qualifying.

Incumbent Larry Poole qualified Thursday for Gillsville mayor. Roy Turpin and Jim Butler, also incumbents, qualified earlier in the week for council Posts 1 and 2, respectively.

In Clermont, Lynn Adams, a director with the Georgia Mountains YMCA, and Kristi Crumpton, media specialist at Mount Vernon Exploratory School, qualified Thursday for two at-large council posts. Incumbent mayor James Nix qualified earlier in the week.

Qualifying continues in both cities until 4:30 p.m. today.

Qualifying ended Wednesday in other cities. Both Oakwood and Lula will have quiet election seasons with only incumbents qualifying for seats on those councils.

In Gainesville, a new elected mayor position drew four candidates, and two council posts, Ward 1 and Ward 4, each drew an incumbent and a challenger. For the city school board, an incumbent qualified for Ward 4 and a newcomer for Ward 1.

In Flowery Branch, both mayor and council Post 5 drew an incumbent and challenger. Only the incumbent qualified for Post 4, though.
