There are contested races in some city elections following the end of qualifying in Gainesville, Clermont, Lula, Oakwood, Buford and Braselton. Gillsville candidates can still sign up to run for election through Friday afternoon.
The elections will be Nov. 5.
Clermont Town Council
On the ballot: Ward 1, Ward 2 and Ward 5, currently held by Cynthia Jett, Doug Myers and Seth Weaver.
Who has qualified: Jett for Ward 1, Myers for Ward 2 and Weaver for Ward 5
Flowery Branch City Council
On the ballot: Posts 1 and 2, currently held by Chris Mundy and Ed Asbridge
Who has qualified: Mundy for Post 1 and Asbridge and David Griscom for Post 2
Gainesville City Council and Board of Education
On the ballot: City Council Wards 2, 3 and 5, currently held by Zack Thompson, Barbara Brooks and Ruth Bruner; Board of Education Districts 2, 3 and 5, currently held by John Filson, Willie Mitchell and Sammy Smith
Who has qualified: Thompson for Ward 2, Brooks for Ward 3 and Juli Clay and Bill Bush for Ward 5 (Bruner previously announced she wouldn’t seek re-election) on City Council; Kris Nordholz for District 2, Mitchell and Chad Payne for District 3 and Smith for District 5 on Board of Education
Lula City Council
On the ballot: Districts 1, 4 and 5, currently held by Matt Hamby, Garnett Smith and Lamb Griffin.
Who has qualified: Hamby for District 1 and Smith for District 4 and Griffin for District 5
Oakwood City Council
On the ballot: Post 3, 4 and 5, currently held by Todd Wilson, Dwight Wood and Sheri Millwood

Braselton Town Council
On the ballot: District 1 and District 3, currently held by Becky Richardson and Tony Funari

Buford boards of commissioners and education
On the ballot: Board of Commissioners Post 1 held by Phillip Beard, who also serves as the chairman, and Board of Education seats held by Beth Lancaster and Daren Perkins.
Who has qualified: Beard for Post 1 on Board of Commissioners; Perkins and Melissa Ferris-Ozkan for one seat on Board of Education and Matt Peevy, David Jerome Carter and Honglien T. Diaz for the other
Gillsville Town Council
On the ballot: Three at-large posts, currently held by Greg Ferguson, Wade Dale and Todd Dale
Who has qualified: Wade, Todd and Rickey Gaylon Sutton II; Sydney Segars filed but then withdrew.
How it works: Candidates can go to the Hall County Government Center, 2875 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Aug. 19-23 to qualify. The fee is $9.
