A retired Gainesville businessman, collector of antique cars and World War II veteran died in his home Saturday following an extended illness. Herbert Bell, 95, owned and operated Bell’s Cleaners on Washington Street in downtown Gainesville from 1936 until he sold the company in 1977. Bell’s friend of 28 years, Steve Gurr, said Bell learned about the dry cleaning business while he served in the Army.
