Better Hometown Job Expo set for Sept. 13 in Cornelia
The third annual Better Hometown Job Expo and More" is set for 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 13 at Cornelia United Methodist Church, 275 Wyly St., Cornelia.
Since its first edition in 2009, more than 800 people have attended the expo and over 125 jobs have been secured.
"Both Better Hometown programs are excited to be a part of this event again this year and are looking forward to helping some of our residents hopefully find some much needed employment," said Heather Sinyard, Cornelia Better Hometown Manager.
"With so many people in the county out of work, this is, unfortunately, an extraordinarily difficult time for job seekers," said Mary Beth Horton, Clarkesville Better Hometown Manager.
"That said, attendance at the Job Expo is even more important this year, since it will provide a great opportunity for those searching for work to network and speak directly with prospective employers."
The focus is to help job seekers find jobs in Habersham and surrounding counties. Interviewing tips, dressing for success and critiquing of resumes will be among the topics covered, along with small-business development, Department of Family and Children Services and information on housing.
"Word of mouth is the No. 1 way to find a job," said Becky Waters, Manager of the Georgia Department of Labor, Habersham Career Center. "Ask yourself: What better way for an employer to hear about you than from another employer?"
Local and area employers will be represented. Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available positions.
