A Buford resident has received an early birthday gift worth millions. Lorie Scarbrough, who will celebrate her 54th birthday Aug. 30, won a $5 million top prize playing the Georgia Lottery’s 15th Anniversary Millionaire Extravaganza.

Scarbrough purchased her winning ticket at Shell Quick Mart, 4785 Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville, and scratched it in her car.

The grandmother of five is no stranger to winning the lottery. Scarbrough won $10,000 in 2007 from an instant game, and a close relative also won $250,000 last year.

A mother of three adult children, Scarbrough recently retired from an insurance agency as a customer service representative.

A new SUV is the first birthday gift Scarbrough anticipates buying for herself, she said. She also plans to pay bills and donate to charity.
