A Buford man suspected of threatening to kill his mother and then eluding authorities and K-9 units on Tuesday has been captured.
After receiving an anonymous tip Wednesday afternoon, Gwinnett County police and sheriff’s deputies found Dustin York at his mother’s home in the 2800 block of Waverly Cove, according to Gwinnett police.
York, who is being held in the Gwinnett County Jail, was wanted on aggravated assault and false imprisonment charges stemming from a Monday incident at his mother’s home.
She told police that her son had been under the influence of drugs for several days, and he was acting more aggressive than usual, throwing things around the kitchen.
She said she got up to walk out of the home, but York hit her in the back of her head as she approached her front door, police said.
York closed the front door, preventing her from leaving, then grabbed a pair of scissors and held them up to her face. Police allege York then threatened to kill his mother, her animals and any police officers if she called 911.
“The victim said that she kept a calm demeanor and eventually convinced York to go take a nap,” states a police press release. “Once he was in his bedroom, she grabbed her purse and one of her dogs and exited the home to meet with officers nearby.”
Officers eventually went back to the home with the victim, but the suspect had already left. The officers suggested that she go somewhere else for the evening, but she declined, police said.
She was given some information about domestic violence and instructions on how to obtain a temporary protective order.
On Tuesday, the mother called authorities to report that York may be in the woods behind her home, police said.
Officers arrived later, spotted York and began chasing him.
Also joining in the manhunt, which prompted a voluntary shutdown of Buford schools Tuesday, were K-9 units from Gwinnett police and the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Georgia State Patrol.
