A couple has been arrested after a 2-year-old drowned in the pool at their Buford home.

Investigators have charged Tanya Sheri Moon, 34, and her husband, Shawn Moon, 36, with two counts of cruelty to children and one count of reckless conduct.

Abiola Bankolemoh, 2, drowned Thursday afternoon at the Moons’ home at 3725 Bradford Walk Trail while among four children being cared for by Tanya Moon.

Tanya Moon found Bankolemoh lying at the bottom of the pool after learning from another child that the 2-year-old had left the home and fallen into the pool, according to Gwinnett police Cpl. David Schiralli.

Moon pulled Bankolemoh out of the pool and began CPR. Gwinnett County authorities arrived about 2:50 p.m. to find Bankolemoh unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at Gwinnett Medical Center.

Moon was taking care of four children, ranging in age from 2 to 9, Thursday afternoon, according to Schiralli. Moon told police that she left the room where the children were playing to use the bathroom, he said. When she returned, one of the children told her Bankolemoh had left the home through a back door and fallen into the pool, according to Schiralli.

During the course of the investigation, evidence was found that there was neglect in the caring for the children, Schiralli said.

The Moons’ five biological children have been placed into the custody of relatives until the Department of Family and Children’s Services completes their investigation, Schiralli said.
