Gainesville Mayor Pro Tem Ruth H. Bruner received a certificate of excellence on Sunday from the Georgia Municipal Association for completing her required municipal training.

Bruner was honored at the Georgia Municipal Association’s annual Mayors’ Day Conference in Atlanta.

To receive a Certificate of Excellence, a city official must complete a minimum of 120 units of credit in a training program that consists of a series of 24 six-unit courses, according to a news release from the city.

Bruner was one of 19 city officials to receive this certificate at the conference.

"This is an outstanding achievement," said GMA Executive Director Jim Higdon. "We commend Mayor Pro Tem Bruner for this accomplishment and for the dedication she’s shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official."
