Starting Thursday, Jan. 10, the bridge that carries Thompson Mill Road over Interstate 985 in Buford will close to traffic for up to 21 days.
The bridge’s substructure will be repaired after it was damaged by an over-height load. Drivers will be detoured by way of Atlanta Highway, or Ga. 13.
Both lanes of I-985 southbound will also be closed between Ga. 20 and Ga. 347 on the nights of Jan. 11 and Jan. 12 between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. Traffic on I-985 southbound will be detoured by way of Ga. 347, Ga. 13 and Ga. 20. Electronic message boards will tell drivers to get off the interstate.
During the day, I-985 southbound will be open but restricted to one lane.
After the first weekend of work, nightly lane closures for the interstate will be allowed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
