BGW Dental Group has announced Nohemi Guzman as the winner of its inaugural “Favorite Teacher Contest.” Guzman is a first-grade teacher at Hall County Schools’ World Language Academy in Flowery Branch.

What began as a simple contest to award a prize package to an area teacher grew once BGW’s dentists saw the overwhelming response from the community. The nomination period was expanded and the prize boosted to $2,500, to be awarded to the winning teacher’s school with a designation for his or her classroom.

Nominations were accepted throughout August for current teachers in kindergarten through 12th grade in schools located within Hall, Banks, Barrow, Dawson, Forsyth, Gilmer, Gwinnett, Habersham, Jackson, Stephens, Lumpkin, Union and White counties.

Throughout September, the community was allowed to vote via BGW’s Facebook page by liking their favorite nominated teacher’s photo.

“We wanted to give a prize to the winner that would not only have a significant impact, but also recognize our educators who are underappreciated and who often use their own money to help subsidize their classrooms,” said Dr. Richard G. Bennett Jr., a partner at BGW Dental Group. “We were truly inspired by the community’s enthusiasm for the contest and plan to make it an annual event. It is our honor to make a donation on Ms. Guzman’s behalf.”

More than 60 educators were nominated, and Guzman received more than 2,000 votes.
