A female hiker has died after falling from the top of Yonah Mountain Tuesday morning, according to White County director of public safety David Murphy. The woman was identified on Wednesday as Jennifer Randel, a 46-year-old mother from Cartersville, by White County coroner Rickey Barrett.

According to Barrett, Randel was hiking with her husband and son on Tuesday when she got too close to the edge of a cliff face and slipped over the edge.

Murphy said authorities received a call that a woman had fallen from the mountain around 10:30 Tuesday morning, and it was determined she died on the scene.

White County Fire EMS then began an “extensive” recovery process that involved rescuers rappelling down to where the body was located and lifting it using a rope pulley system, per Murphy.
