One arrested in undercover gambling investigation at Gainesville laundromat

A Gainesville man was charged with commercial gambling after an undercover investigation at the laundromat he was operating, according to authorities.

Hall County Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad officers searched Oct. 21 at a laundromat business in the 200 block of Atlanta Highway.

Officers found nine video gambling machines, receipts and other evidence inside the business as well as $18,518.50 in cash.

Joel Contreras Cervantes, 70, was charged with commercial gambling and keeping a gambling place.

Lt. Don Scalia said he received tips from community members before launching the investigation. He was unsure under what name the business was operating.

No other arrests are expected.

No attorney information was listed for Cervantes with Hall County Magistrate Court officials.
