Gainesville police have charged a mother with murder in the death of her 4-month-old child.

Investigators allege LaQuicia Jackson, 32, of Gainesville suffocated her baby daughter, according to a release from Gainesville Police.

According to the release, emergency personnel responded at 7:19 a.m., Monday, Dec. 16, to the Summit Street Apartments at 835 Summit St. in response to a call about an unresponsive female child.

The girl was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. The autopsy was completed Tuesday, Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said.

“From the beginning, it appeared to be suspicious,” Holbrook said.

Jackson is being held at the Hall County Detention Center.
