Body of missing man found in Lake Lanier
Lake Lanier

The body of a man missing since at least Feb. 9 has been discovered by a fisherman in Lake Lanier, according to the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

Spokesman Derreck Booth wrote in an email Sunday that the body of Brian Dwayne Fergerson, 33, of Gainesville was found in the water at the end of Fisherman's Cove off of Price Road at approximately 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

Booth said the Sheriff’s Office and Hall County Fire Services recovered the body from the lake, made positive identification and notified family members.

Detectives have been investigating Fergerson’s disappearance since Feb. 9, when a family member and a friend first reported him missing. Both said they last spoke with Fergerson about 4 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, when he said he just needed to go, “clear his head.”

On the same day, deputies learned that Fergerson’s truck had been abandoned in the area of Barkers Bend Drive and Yellow Creek Road. Investigators initially received information that the truck was left there on Feb. 8, but further investigation revealed it was there as early as Feb. 2, according to Booth.

Several agencies were involved in the search for Fergerson over the past two weeks, Booth said.

The body has been sent to the medical examiner for autopsy and to determine the cause of death.
