Authorities searching for arsonist behind Gainesville vacant home fire

An arsonist set a fire Tuesday, Nov. 2,  in a vacant home on Gillsville Highway in Gainesville, according to authorities.

The Hall County fire marshal’s office is seeking information to find the suspect with a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Firefighters first noticed the smoke about 10:30 a.m. at 2805 Gillsville Highway. They were in the process of moving from Hall County Fire Station No. 1 on Athens Highway to a new station on Gillsville Highway.

EMS Division Chief Christie Grice said the fire was extinguished quickly, though no people were found in or near the hom..

The fire marshal’s office determined the cause of the fire to be arson.
