Gainesville police replace nets at Atlanta Street Apartments
To think outside of the box, some Gainesville police officers took their efforts to the basketball court.
Officers replaced the nets at the Atlanta Street Apartments in Gainesville after noticing the poor shape of the existing hoops. Gainesville Police spokesman Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said the money for the nets came out of the officers’ own pockets.
“Many people don’t realize that these officers take ownership of the areas, the communities in which they work in, and it’s just a way for us to give back to the community,” he said.
The arrival of the new nets was followed by a pick-up game of basketball between officers and local children, topped off with some ice cream.
“Even a quick pick-up game of basketball. That’s five minutes, but that five minutes to a child will live a life-lasting memory of law enforcement and change their respective on law enforcement,” Holbrook said.
