PoliceLights

A Gainesville man allegedly pulled a knife on a Hall County inmate Sunday at the bathroom area of Cool Springs Park, according to authorities.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Ware said a sheriff’s office prison work detail was taking a bathroom break following some lawn maintenance Sunday, May 5, at Cool Springs Park.

The 38-year-old man “pulled a knife” on the 29-year-old inmate and “threatened to kill him,” Ware said.

“A deputy supervising the detail quickly arrested (the man) without further incident,” Ware said.

The Gainesville man was charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threats.

Ware said there was no known relationship between the inmate and the suspect, and he did not know of a motive.

The case is still being investigated by the sheriff’s office.

Arson witness gets $6,250 following man’s conviction

A witness was recently rewarded with $6,250 “related to his testimony and related conviction” of a man in a September 2017 case at Holiday Marina, according to a release from Hall County Fire Services.

The man was convicted in February in Hall County Superior Court.

As a nonprofit, Georgia Arson Control “has provided rewards to individuals who report arson incidents since 1979 with hundreds of citizens receiving rewards in excess of $1.8 million,” according to the news release.

“It is important for the public to know that these rewards are given out regularly from our partners at Georgia Arson Control. If anyone has information that can assist in the arrest and conviction of a person responsible for arson, they are eligible for this reward,” Hall County Fire Marshal Bryan Cash said in a statement.

Authorities: Man allegedly stole car, hits victim with open car door

An Alto man is accused of stealing a car and then cutting a victim’s leg with an open car door, according to authorities.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Ware said the 28-year-old suspect allegedly took a man’s 1998 Honda Accord Saturday, May 4, on White Sulphur Road.

“As (the suspect) was fleeing the scene in the stolen car, he struck the victim in the shin with an open driver’s side car door, resulting in a cut and bruise to the victim’s leg,” Ware wrote in a news release.

At the time of the release, authorities did not know of any relationship between the suspect and victim.

Gainesville Police later that day arrested the suspect and recovered the Honda Accord.

The suspect was charged with aggravated assault, theft by taking, theft by receiving, fleeing/eluding and reckless driving among other traffic-related counts.
