A 1-year-old girl was found alone and dehydrated in a car Friday in Gainesville, according to authorities.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 1300 block of Marlow Drive, where a witness discovered an infant and removed the child from the car.

“The baby was dehydrated but free of any other injuries and is doing fine,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Ware said in a news release.

The child’s father, Mateo Alonzo Y Alonzo, 31, of Gainesville, was charged with second-degree cruelty to children, after being contacted by deputies at the residence. He also has an immigration hold, Ware said.

The child’s mother was at work, Ware said.

Hall County Division of Family and Children Services was notified, and the child was transported to the hospital after initial care from Hall County medical units.
