A Lula woman was accused of beating her 2-year-old daughter and leaving bruises, according to authorities.

Rebecca Anne Harris, 24, was charged with first-degree child cruelty. She was booked Tuesday, March 12, in to the Hall County Jail.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Ware said Harris allegedly beat her daughter “causing visible bruising, swelling and abrasions to the child’s side, leg and buttock.”

“A family member observed the child’s injuries and reported them to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office,” Ware wrote in a news release.

Ware said the assault allegedly happened Monday, March 11, at a home on Buffington Road.

When Harris was arrested, officers found $400 worth of methamphetamine in her possession, Ware said.

In addition to the child cruelty count, Harris was charged with possession of methamphetamine and battery under the Family Violence Act.

“The child is safe and in the custody of relatives,” Ware wrote.

The Division of Family and Children Services was notified.

The case is still under investigation.

No attorney information was available Wednesday, March 13, from Magistrate Court officials.
