Authorities believe child started early morning Gainesville fire

Authorities said they believe a 5-year-old started a fire early this morning at the Harrison Square apartments. Gainesville Fire responded around 3:30 a.m. to the K building of the public housing complex on Athens Street, where “flames were visible in the second floor area” of the apartments. Division Chief Keith Smith said no was injured, and firefighters kept the flames contained to the room.
