The Thursday afternoon accident involved a tractor-trailer and another vehicle. Traffic was backed up on the highway and detoured onto Wallace Road.

The fatal occurred at 4:34 p.m., 0.2 miles south of Wallace.

A 2007 Honda Civic was southbound on Ga. 11 and crossed into the northbound lane, striking a 2005 Freightliner, the Georgia State Patrol said.

The driver of the Honda — Samuel A. Viera, 24, from Gainesville — was killed in the crash.

The driver of the tractor trailer — Colin Wayne Adams, 67, of Rossville — had complaints of injuries and was not transported for treatment.

It was the third fatal accident in the area this week. A Monday afternoon wreck at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Queen City Parkway killed Aylin Rodriguez, a second-grader at World Language Academy, and an early morning wreck on Tuesday killed two people who have yet to be identified after their car's fiery crash with a tractor-trailer on Purina Drive.
