Arbor Day Celebration set for Don Carter State Park

The annual Arbor Day Celebration is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Don Carter State Park in Gainesville.

Open to the public, the event is sponsored by the Hall County Master Gardeners, Keep Hall Beautiful and Georgia Power. Festivities include student contest recognition and a joint city/county proclamation with Tree City USA recognition.

The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee and the Georgia Forestry Service will announce winners of the 2014 Arbor Day Student Art and Essay Contest. With more than 100 entries in art and the topic “I Speak for the Trees,” first place in the Third Grade Art Contest goes to Juliet Edge, McEver Arts Academy. Honorable mentions were earned by Allison Pineda, Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy, and Yvette Gonzalez, New Holland Knowledge Academy.

First-place winner in the Fifth Grade Essay Contest is Ally Cook, Enota Elementary. Isaiah Willock and Ashely Andrade-Sosa, Enota Elementary, earned honorable mentions.
