An anti-LGBT sign was vandalized overnight at a Buford church.

A Buford church’s sign, which read in part “Satan made gays and transgender,” was covered in black paint between Sunday night and Monday morning, police said.

Gwinnett County Police responded Monday morning to the vandalism report at Back to the Bible Holiness Church on New Street in Buford.

The original text on the sign read: “God created man and woman. Satan made gays and transgender. Gen 5:2.”

Pastor Bobby Wright said a neighbor called him around 7 a.m. Monday morning and told him about the vandalism. He said the sign was up for weeks before the Orlando shooting that killed 49 people.

“This is not a lesbian and gay community,” Wright said. “This is a heterosexual community.”

Wright said the church had not received any negative comments before the vandalism. After the shooting, Wright said “there was no reason to take it down.”

“I haven’t done anything hateful. I haven’t called anybody any names. I haven’t gone out and vandalized somebody’s property,” the pastor said.

The passage in Genesis refers to the creation of male and female people.

“They messed with the wrong preacher,” Wright said, adding he is not one to back down.
