The body of a 59-year-old Alpharetta man was recovered from Lake Lanier late Saturday night after he fell off a private dock and didn’t resurface, authorities said.
Jalil Poorak was reported to have fallen into the lake at about 10 p.m. May 12, and his body was found two hours later after a search of the surrounding area by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Forsyth County Fire Dive Team, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Army Corps of Engineers and Hall County Marine Units, according to Cpl. Doug Rainwater, spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
Division Chief Jason Shivers of the Forsyth County Fire Department said they believe Poorak was stepping off his dock into a boat when he fell into the water. They are unsure why Poorak was unable to resurface.
Shivers said the body was eventually located by a DNR Underwater Recovery Robot and was recovered by divers.
This incident is under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Rainwater said.
