Dr. Betsy Ainsworth will take over as principal at Chestnut Mountain Elementary for the 2019-2020 school year.
The Hall County Schools Board of Education approved her appointment to the position at its meeting on Monday, March 18.
Current Principal Wade Pearce is resigning to return to a leadership role at Eagle Ranch. Ainsworth has been employed as the principal at White Sulphur Elementary since 2012.
Ainsworth is a Gainesville native with more than 18 years of experience in education.
She was first employed in the Hall County School District in August 2002 as a teacher at Chestnut Mountain Elementary.
In 2009, Ainsworth moved to a position as assistant principal, first at Chestnut Mountain and later at Sardis Elementary.
Ainsworth received her undergraduate degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, her master’s degree from the University of North Georgia, and her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia.
“My time at White Sulphur Elementary School has been invaluable,” Ainsworth said in a statement. “I will miss the caring and devoted staff and wonderful students and families in this community. I know White Sulphur will continue to grow and flourish under new leadership. In addition, I am excited about this new opportunity to join Chestnut Mountain Creative School of Inquiry. Chestnut Mountain is where I began my teaching career so it has always been very dear to me. I look forward to returning to serve this amazing community of students, staff and families.”
