One lane at a time of Interstate 85 in the city of Jefferson will be closed Wednesday morning while crews repair damage from a crane accident.

All lanes of I-85 were closed after the 5 p.m. Tuesday accident just south of the exit 137 ramp to U.S. 129/State Road 11, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. Traffic was being detoured up the exit ramp, across U.S. 129/SR 11 and back on the the interstate via the entrance ramp.

Northbound lanes opened to traffic at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and I-85 southbound was expected to be open about 11 p.m.

About 800 feet of cable barrier was damaged and the driving surface was gouged and scraped, DOT said. If weather permits, the damaged asphalt will be replaced Wednesday beginning about 9 a.m.

DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information.
