5 people hurt, 2 seriously, in wreck on Jesse Jewell Parkway
Gainesville Fire Department and Hall County Fire Services crews prepare an injured motorist for transport Tuesday afternoon on Jesse Jewell Parkway near Hamilton Road. Five people were hurt in the two-car collision, including two who were seriously injured.

Five people were taken to the hospital Tuesday after a two-car collision on Ga.369/Jesse Jewell Parkway in Gainesville, according to authorities.

Georgia State Patrol said Adolphus Jefferson, 65, of Gainesville, was driving eastbound on Jesse Jewell Parkway near Hamilton Road in a Honda Accord. Philip Tapp, 19, of Gainesville, approached the same intersection heading westbound in a Ford Fiesta.

“(Jefferson’s car) failed to maintain its lane and crossed over the double yellow line into the travel path of (Tapp’s car),” Cpl. Jonathan Munger wrote in an email.

The Honda Accord’s front bumper struck the Ford Fiesta’s front bumper, Munger said.

Munger said three people from Jefferson’s car and two people from Tapp’s car were transported by Hall County EMS to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

“Two were said to have serious injuries” to an unknown extent, Munger said.

Jefferson was cited for failure to maintain lane, according to authorities.
