Two staff members of The Times earned awards at the annual Southern Newspaper Publishers Association’s News Industry Summit in Sarasota, Fla.
Savannah King earned a first place for best video and photographer Scott Rogers three photography awards. Each were Readers’ Choice Awards voted by SNPA members and readers.
King took first for her GO video, “A four-course guide to eating in Flowery Branch.” The GO videos appear weekly at gainesvilletimes.com and highlight different leisure activities in the area.
Rogers took two sports awards: second place for a baseball photo from Gainesville and third for a photo of athletes celebrating at the Pan American Championships canoe-kayak event last spring on Lake Lanier. He also earned a third place in features with a photo from the National Day of Prayer on the Gainesville square.
In addition, Managing Editor Shannon Casas was one of eight editorial and advertising leaders from member newspapers earning a graduation certificate from the SNPA’s NEX GEN training program, which paired rising stars with experienced industry mentors. Micah Green, creative director of the Forsyth County News in Cumming, has been chosen to take part in next year’s program.
