Two people were killed early Friday morning when a pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle on Browns Bridge Road and struck an SUV head-on.

A 911 caller described the incident in which the driver repeatedly hit the vehicle she was in before entering the other lane.

“We have got a red truck following us ... he just hit us,” the woman, sounding distraught, told the dispatcher in the recording released to the media. “... He just hit somebody head-on. Oh no, oh no, oh no.”

A man can be heard on the call estimating the truck was going 70 miles per hour.

Cpl. Joe Britte with Gainesville Police said a call came in about 12:10 a.m. and officers arrived at 12:16 a.m. to the 3000 block of Browns Bridge Road just past Cresswind subdivision. Both drivers were dead when they arrived, he said.

Britte identified Michael Carl Williams, 48, of Ringgold as the driver of the red 1996 Chevrolet C2500 pickup truck and Chelsea Gerrish, 20, of Gainesville, as the driver of the 2001 white Jeep Cherokee Laredo.

Two passengers in the SUV were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious but not life-threatening injuries, Britte said. He did not have an update on their condition.

Britte said he didn’t have any information on what may have caused the pickup driver’s behavior. No drugs or alcohol were found in the truck, though he said a toxicology report would likely be done.
