Hall County commissioners Kathy Cooper and Scott Gibbs intend to run for re-election this year.

Cooper represents South Hall and Gibbs North Hall. The commissioners announced their intentions at the Hall County Board of Commissioners meeting on Thursday.

Their two seats are the only ones up for election this year. Both said they feel like they’ve accomplished much in their time on the commission and have more to do before stepping down.

Cooper was first elected to the commission in 2014, and Gibbs has been a commissioner since 2011.

“I know some of the decisions we make are hard, and we have to take things into considerations for everybody in the county when we’re making them, and I do try to do my best to do that,” Cooper said as she announced her re-election bid.

Cooper’s comments came after heated disagreements from her constituents in the Ivy Springs subdivision about the fate of the Spouts Spring Road widening project.

Gibbs said the county has a number of road and other infrastructure projects coming that he hopes to help manage with the county.

“We’ve opened Cherokee Bluffs Park; we’ve opened the new Sheriff’s headquarters — all below budget,” Gibbs said. “... I just would like to continue serving the folks of District 3.”
