A 12-year-old White County boy either loading or unloading a go-cart from a trailer was injured Tuesday night when the trailer's door fell on him, officials said.

About 8:30 p.m. at T.S. Drive off Westmoreland Road in Cleveland, the 500-pound door came loose "when the cables gave way," said Ana Newberry, White County Fire Department public information officer.

Newberry said the door on the box utility trailer, similar to a car carrier, could have had screws loose or just broke when the accident happened.

The boy was airlifted to Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center in Atlanta, where his condition wasn't available.

"We're just standing by to see if he comes through," Newberry said.

Newberry said the incident was an apparent accident and there is no investigation to determine if charges should be filed.
