The number of traffic wrecks, injuries and deaths on Georgia’s roads during the Thanksgiving holiday was well below estimates as of late Sunday evening.
The Department of Public Safety was reporting 2,859 crashes involving 659 injuries and 11 deaths.
The department had projected 3,570 crashes involving 1,398 injuries and 16 deaths.
Last year, the Georgia State Patrol worked 3,815 crashes involving 1,457 injuries and 19 deaths.
The Thanksgiving reporting period began at 6 p.m. Wednesday and ended at midnight Sunday.
One of the fatalities involved a Gainesville woman, 22-year-old Erin Pritchett, whose car went off Glade Farm Road in North Hall and struck a tree early Saturday morning.
Funeral services are set for Tuesday for Pritchett, an East Hall High School graduate.
