Timothy K. Holden, son of Virgina C. Emmett Burgess of Toccoa, recently enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps under the delayed entry program with Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Columbia, S. C.

The program allows recruits to enter the Marine Corps and take up to one year to complete prior commitments such as high school. Using recruiter as mentors, this program helps recruits ease into the transition from civilian to military life.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Nicholas B. Elliott, son of Kimberly D. and Tracy B. Elliott of Hoschton, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Elliott completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid and shipboard and aircraft safety. The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations," an exercise designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit.
