Members of Gainesville State College’s Politically Incorrect Club recently toured the Winder home of the late U.S. Sen. Richard Russell.

The tour was led by John Russell, a nephew of Sen. Russell who is an attorney in Winder.

The club also recently toured the Piedmont hotel Museum near downtown Gainesville. The Confederate general James Longstreet ran the hotel after the war. The students, faculty and family and friends who attended the tour also heard a presentation on Gen. Longstreet and the hotel by curator Joe Whitaker.

After touring the museum, many students joined Politically Incorrect Club adviser Douglas Young on a trip to Longstreet’s grave in nearby Alta Vista Cemetery.
