Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy recently honored more than 50 prekindergarten through fifth-grade students who participated in the Hall County Summer Reading Program. They enjoyed doughnuts, milk and juice in the media center.

State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox recently named 53 students from around Georgia to her 2009-2010 Student Advisory Council.

Local students include Taylor Bishop of North Hall High School, Drake Corbin of Jackson County Comprehensive High School, Veronica Leon of Gainesville High School and Sara Beth Roberts of White County High School.

As members of the council, these students will meet three times throughout the school year to advise Superintendent Cox on how state policies are having an impact in the classroom. The Student Advisory Council also will discuss other education-related issues and will serve as the superintendent's ambassadors in their respective schools.

More than 550 students from 108 districts applied to be a member of the Student Advisory Council by filling out an application and answering essay questions. Students were chosen based on the strength of their essay answers.

The first meeting of the Student Advisory Council will be held today at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Lakeview Academy seniors Bay Nixon and Brian Scully recently were named commended students in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2010 competition by taking the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Gainesville High School students Joshua Chester, Shelley Farmer and Owen Fowler recently were named semifinalists for the scholarship. They will go on to the finalist round to try and obtain a scholarship to the school of their choice.
