Lakeview Academy Key Club members recently participated in the 64th annual Georgia District Key Club Convention at Jekyll Island. Members elected officers, attended workshops and participated in scholarship sessions
The Georgia district supports the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes and presented the organization with a check for $16,535, raised by members throughout the state.
Lakeview Academy's Key Club is sponsored by the Gainesville Kiwanis Club, which also sponsors Key Clubs at Gainesville High School, North Hall High School, Chestatee High School and Brenau Academy. The Kiwanis Club also sponsors Brenau University's Circle K Club and the K-Kids at Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy.
Emily Windhorst from Gainesville High School's Key Club won the $1,000 Leadership Scholarship.
Dylon P. Wolf, a freshman at Northwood University in Midland, Mich., has received the Free-Enterprise Scholarship for the 2008-2009 school year.
The $5,000 award may be renewed each year if criteria is met. He is the son of Rhonda and David Wolf of Gainesville.
Whitney White, daughter of Tricia White of Gainesville, has been named a presidential scholar at the University of Georgia in Athens for the spring and fall 2008 semesters.
Carly Turner, daughter of Denton Turner of Braselton, recently graduated from Berry College in Mount Berry.
Zach Smith, a senior at Dawson County High School, recently was honored by his school for his achievements in music.
Among other honors he has received, he was a 2008 Governor's Honors recipient and has also participated in All-State Chorus for the past four years. He also was elected homecoming king this past fall.
He is the son of Steven and Sherry Smith.
