The West Hall High School Band of Silver recently received overall superior ratings in the Southern Star Invitational Marching Festival and Competition at South Gwinnett High School. The band, drumline, auxiliary corps and drum major all received this rating, which is the highest a band may receive.
Receiving trophies for the day were feature twirlers Natalie Compton and Suzannah Grindle; the color guard led by Julieanna Troutman and Jessyka Hart; the flagette corps, led by Erin Mundy and Vanessa Goff; and the band’s drumline.
The 100-piece ensemble is under the student leadership of drum major Jessica Whiting and band captain Josh Moncada.
Ten students at Lakeview Academy have earned Advanced-Placement Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams.
Tim Scully qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
Elif Alyanak qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
The following students qualified for the AP Scholar award by completing three or more AP exams with grades of 3 or higher: Austin Atherton, Kate Bennett, Brittany Chandler, Lauren Huczko, Nichole Kayne, Nancy Lewallen, Darby Thompson and Lauren Wages.
Second-graders from Jones Elementary School spent Friday at Gainesville State College as part of an event to introduce the students to the concept of college.
The second-graders dressed like their favorite children’s literature character for the day and took part in a trick-or-treating campus tour, as well as participated in science activities, creative arts projects and story time.
The Hall County Library Summer Reading Program recently honored more than 53 prekindergarten through fifth-graders at Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy. The students were treated with doughnuts for continuing to practice their reading skills during the summer.
