Brenau University student Barbara Wiren helps Fair Street International Baccalaureate World School fourth-grade students calculate the area of their footprint.

Brenau University’s Teaching Math class students presented a Math Olympiad on April 22 for Fair Street International Baccalaureate World School fourth-grade students. The university students designed and supervised activities reinforcing measurement and estimation skills in conjunction with the Georgia Performance Standards.

White Sulphur Elementary School’s kindergarten unit recently raised $674 in a Math-a-Thon for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Each child was given a math workbook with 238 problems and asked to find sponsors for each problem completed. Student Koltin Zona raised $140. Kindergarten teacher Jessica Burce coordinated the event.

Whitney Owens, a student at Gainesville High School, has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars. To be invited, students must achieve superior academic excellence.

Courtney Ann Cox has been awarded a $500 scholarship from Modern Woodmen of America. She is the daughter of Pat and Mike Cox of Flowery Branch. She plans to attend North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega.
