Jefferson High School air force JROTC national drill team members Miranda Bellew, Shane Arbanas, Carlos Marte, Chris Riggs, Amber Simerly, Carlos Mendoza, Mark Weaver, Jakale Davenport, Christian Edens, Milan Patel, Maribel Rodriguez, Juliann Watson, Arah Berry, Heather Simerly, Rebekkah Hagan, Derrick Alderson, Clay Gooch, Timmy Warren, Lance Wilson, Cassandra Slaby, Wesley Butler, Andre Gonzales and Miguel Rodriguez.

Nine Hall County students have qualified to participate in this year’s Governor’s Honors Program. The students are:
Jamie Bennett, Flowery Branch High School; Jake Jacob, Flowery Branch High School; Leonardo Veiga, Flowery Branch High School; Nelson Yanes, Johnson High School; Frema Awuku, North Hall High School; Harrison Holliday, West Hall High School; Sallie Justus, West Hall High School; Malcom Moon, West Hall High School; Kelsey Williamson, West Hall High School.
The Governor’s Honors Program is June 13-July 24 at Valdosta State University.



Isaac Hopkins, a student at Gainesville High School, recently performed at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Foundation’s annual Shuler Hensley Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theatre.
The event included students from 39 high schools from 11 counties, representing 12 school districts as well as private schools in the Greater Atlanta area.
The program debuted in April 2009 with 15 participating high schools from five metro Atlanta counties. The Shuler Hensley Awards, part of the Foundation’s ARTSBRIDGE program, honor musical theatre excellence at the high school level.

 

The Jefferson High School Air Force JROTC drill team had three top finishes at the Air Force National Eastern JROTC Drill Championships in Macon.
This is the team’s second year competing at the national level.
Team members Timmy Warren, Derrick Alderson, Lance Wilson, Miranda Bellew, Amber Simerly, Mark Weaver, Juliann Watson, Andre Gonzales, Miguel Rodriguez, Maribel Rodriguez, Carlos Mendoza, Milan Patel and Clay Gooch (team commander) placed third in Unarmed Drill and fourth in Unarmed Inspection. Clay Gooch placed second in the Commander’s Competition.
The Dragon Group qualified to compete in the Joint National Drill Meet in Daytona Beach this month.
