Kathryn Hucks, a 2014 Lumpkin County High School graduate, won first in the client services event in late June and early July at the Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn.
Hucks progressed to NLC by competing at region conference and placing first in the state competition in March in Atlanta. The event required impromptu problem-solving and communication skills while interacting with judges from business and industry. Hucks beat 75 others from across the United States and won $1,300 from the event sponsor, KPMG, and Georgia FBLA.
The national conference offered workshops, networking, leadership and social opportunities. More than 10,000 students and advisers from across the U.S. attended.
Membership in FBLA is open to all students in Georgia high schools where there is a chapter and offers 65-plus competitive events for individuals and teams covering a wide variety of topics and disciplines. Georgia FBLA is the largest of all state chapters in the country.
