Hall County students medal in kayak race
Hall County students win medals at the Special Olympics state kayak competition in Macon. The seven-member team took home two gold, one silver and one bronze medals and three fourth-place ribbons.

Recently, Hall County’s seven-man kayak team placed in the Special Olympics state kayak competition on Lake Tobesofkee in Macon.

Comprised of students from Johnson, North Hall, West Hall, East Hall and Flowery Branch high schools, the team won two gold medals, one silver medal, one bronze medal and three fourth-place ribbons.

“Not bad for a young team that has been paddling for less than a year,” said Scott Crain, a parent mentor with the Hall County Schools Special Education Department.

The seven members worked for six months to prepare for the event and it paid off, he said. All seven athletes placed in the competition.
