The Children’s Holiday Art Party at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville was held during the fourth annual Christmas on Green Street event on Dec. 2.

The Art League recently sponsored the Children’s Holiday Art Party at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville during the fourth annual Christmas on Green Street event on Dec. 2. The art party, for children ages 5-14, was free for attendees and also included refreshments for the more than 50 kids who attended.

Gainesville High School’s summer production of "What I Did Last Summer" was awarded third place in the state AAA One Act Play competition on Nov. 17 at Rabun Gap. Gainesville High junior Leah Crawford was named best actress for the competition.

Navy Seaman apprentice Ana M. Ayala, daughter of Maria C. and Carlos Ayala of Gainesville, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Ayala is a 2005 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Army National Guard Pvt. Eva G. Giles has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. She is the daughter of Kobie Giles of Oakwood and sister of Matt Giles of Dahlonega.

Army Pvt. Britney L. Mendenhall has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. She is the granddaughter of Sam Lewis and sister of Matthew Hulsey, both of Gainesville. Mendenhall graduated in 2007 from North Hall High School.

Army Pvt. Tyler B. Anderson has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Anderson is the son of Terry H. Anderson of Flowery Branch and Marlene Brumbelow of Rockmart. The private is a 2007 graduate of Rockmart High School.
