Family T.I.E.S., formerly Prevent Child Abuse-Gainesville, recently received a $500 donation from Jim and Crista Partlowe of Jim Partlowe State Farm Insurance.

Family T.I.E.S., formerly Prevent Child Abuse-Gainesville, recently received a $500 donation from Jim and Crista Partlowe of Jim Partlowe State Farm Insurance. Crista Partlowe serves as one of the board members for Family T.I.E.S. The nonprofit group is dedicated to teaching and supporting families in Gainesville, and it offers free parenting classes.

Gladys Humphries McQueen celebrated her 98th birthday on Sept. 10 with family and friends. She was born in Habersham County, but has spent most of her life in Gainesville. McQueen has four children, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She enjoys planting a small vegetable garden in her yard every year.

The Col. William Candler chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution donated Jean Fritz's book, "Shh! We're Writing the Constitution," to the East Hall Middle School Media Center.
