Trevor Marone received the Youth Top Exhibitor Award.

The Gainesville Gateway Garden Club and the Crabapple and Fleur de Lis garden clubs presented the flower show "Color me Young" March 28-29 at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center. It was presented in conjunction with Youth Art Month.

Josh Burgess, son of John Burgess and Beth Holmes, has obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. Burgess is a member of Troop 221, Oakwood. For his project, Josh built an outdoor vespers area for the Spirit of Joy Christian Church in Flowery Branch.

Phillip L. Batho has graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. Batho is a 2006 graduate of Chestatee High School. He is the son of Alan and Marie Batho of Gainesville.

Juan C. Ayala recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. Ayala is a 2006 graduate of Johnson High School. He is the son of Maria C. and Carlos Ayala of Gainesville.

Joshua E. Pass has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Janet Pass of Mount Airy.

Air Force Airman C.T. Laucius has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the brother of Albert Laurendeau of Cleveland.

More than 200 area students participated in the 34th annual North Gainesville Music Festival held recently at Brenau University. In addition to the highest superior rating given to Allison Chetta, the following students also received certificates:

Nine-year certificates: Parrish Brown, student of Beth Lawrence; John Aaron Jovaag, student of Danielle Aikens-Holland; and Abigail Chetta, student of Keith Jefcoat.

Eight-year certificates: Caitlin Cosper, student of Josephine Cosper; and Conor Monaghan, student of Keith Jefcoat.

Seven-year certificates: Abby Cooley, student of You Ju Lee; Mallory Rich, student of Jeff Shaw; and Jacob Page, student of Sara Harris.

Six-year certificates: Logan Brown, student of Beth Lawrence; and Sally Justus, student of Keith Jefcoat.

The following voice, violin and cello students received superior certificates:
