John Barker recieved a 50-year service award from Chestatee Masonic Lodge No. 102.

Annie Roper was recently crowned Miss Chestatee Middle School 2008 and also received the People’s Choice Award. Emily Talley was crowned Miss Chestatee High School 2008 and was also voted Miss Congeniality. Annie is the daughter of Jeff and Vickie Roper and Emily is the daughter of Ty and Jill Talley.

Chestatee Masonic Lodge No. 102 recently celebrated a 50-year service award ceremony. Awards were given to John Barker and Davis Webb. Awards were presented by Newton Copeland, district deputy to the Grand Master. Their wives pinned on their service pins.

Sterling on the Lake’s pumpkin festival, held in conjunction with festivals in 11 Newland Communities’ neighborhoods across the country, helped to raise about $440,000 for charity. The major recipient of the money raised is HomeAid, a national nonprofit provider of housing for those who are temporarily homeless. A portion of the money raised at the Sterling on the Lake event will also go to help Big Brothers, Big Sisters of the Northwest Georgia Mountains. Nationwide, Newland Communities estimates more than 20,000 children and adults took part in the festivals, carving an estimated 13,000 pumpkins.
