Soloists for the Nov. 5 and 6 concert of Bach’s Cantata 80 were Jessica Broman, Rich Grimshaw, Hannah Chapman, Ashley Wilson and Rebekah Poss. The concert, presented by the North Georgia College & State University Singers at Dahlonega Baptist Church, was directed by John M. Broman, NGCSU director of choral activities. Mary Beth Hutcheson provided accompaniment.

The Quinlan Visual Arts Center has announced the winners of its 60th annual Members’ Exhibition, which opened Oct. 11. Guest judge for the show was Dennis Campay, who is known for his mixed media cityscapes and interiors. The awards are as follows: Best in show: Jim Chapman, "Marta in Cortona;" first place: Ashley Adams, "Looking Back;" second place: Betsy Ledbetter, "Jug;" tied for third place: Alan Tiegreen, "Sleeping Girl," and Hal Silcox, "Timing." A special Director’s Award went to Nancy Franke’s "Peaceful Plums." Twenty-five honorable mentions were also awarded: Ray Alban, Hewett Beasley, Mary Brennan, Pris Buttler, Carol Christie, Carly Clements-Hardy, Gene Coker, Mary Dilworth, Sharon Farkas, Luella Germain, Twyla Germain, Ann Goble, Joe Hall, Marsha Hopkins, Al Kennison, Cate Larkin, Karen Lawrence, Sherry Needle, Alice Paris, Dean Smith, Diane Speight, Jennifer Stone, Carol Weaver, Mary Hart Wilheit and Whitney C. Wood.

Air Force Reserve Maj. Janet L. Thomason has been deployed to Iraq. A registered nurse, Thomason is assigned to the 622nd Aeromedical Staging Squadron at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins. She has served in the military for 19 years. She is the daughter of Jim and Nancy Thomason of Jefferson. Thomason graduated in 1979 from Perry High School in Perry and received a bachelor’s degree in 1994 from Georgia College State University, Milledgeville.

Army National Guard Pvt. Uli B. Wilson has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. She is the daughter of Gary Wilson of Flowery Branch. Wilson is a 2006 graduate of Flowery Branch High School.

Air Force Airman Amber A. Bellew has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Carol Bellew of Winder and Jonathon Bellew of Gainesville. Bellew is a 2004 graduate of Apalachee High School, Winder.
