Gainesville humane society receives donations

The Tanger Outlets in Commerce delivered supplies to area animal shelters including Gainesville’s Humane Society of Northeast Georgia.

More than 1,200 items were collected in July and August at the outlet mall during its monthlong supply drive, all of which were divided up and delivered animal shelters in Winder, Jefferson and Gainesville.

The donations are put to good use, said Julie Edwards, acting executive director of the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia, “I am so excited to see all these donations as it shows how much people care,” she said. “We have a huge challenge of making our budget go very far so every little bit helps.”

In addition the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia, donations were also delivered to Leftover Pets in Winder and the Humane Society of Jackson County in Jefferson.

“Area businesses and the community at large were invited to drop off supply donations at Tanger during July and the response was tremendous; far beyond our expectations,” Tanger General Manager Mark Valentine said.

Donations included pet food and snacks, leashes and harnesses, pet beds, pillows and pillow cases, office supplies and cleaning supplies, frisbees and chew toys. Both new and used items were accepted.
